Default From scratch

Excited about my new beds 4' wide by 18" deep section is riverbottom top soil.
It is tapered back a little further into the hill, I will grow some perennials here and there outside the "deep " zone.
I plan on a summer cover crop of cowpeas, sunflowers and assorted random annual flowers and brassicas. This should start adding organic matter. Through the summer and leave a nice mulch when I mow it down and let winter weathering do the rest.

You are off to a great start there. In fall you can add all of the leaves that you can get your hands on. That should really help to improve your soil.
