I grow for a ministry in northeast missouri called heartland ministries. I distribute tomatoes within the community. Like the men's/women's homes the children's homes the college dorm etc. We are not for profit.

Looks like they are lucky to have you growing for them!

Do you find that getting flavor in your hydro tomatoes is largely a matter of choosing the right variety, or do you have a flavoring-up regimen you use?

\This is my first year growing hydro so I haven't developed any opinions yet. or anything....haven't even thought of flavoring them up other than to flush the salts out....now that I think of it a water molasses solution might work nicely for that but I don't know I'll have to experiment.

Actually I have heard that it is extra salts that can be correlated with better hydroponic flavor.

Geep em salty (high ec) for best flavor. Overdoing it can reduce productivity. Cornell and arizona are both recommending small amounts of sodium chloride I think 35ppm to improve tomato flavor as well.

WOW! A amazing set up. Just a couple of questions if you have chance to answer them about the hardware of your system.

How large are the bato buckets?
Running two plants in each bucket, do you think that the root mass will get too crowded or are you only running the plants for shorter period of time?
How many bato buckets do you haver per pump? What size of pump? Control Bucket size? Air pump size?
Is "Masterblend81" a reference to your choice of fertilizers?

Hello Jeff sorry I've taken so long getting back to you. I was on vacation all weekend so have been away from the computer. First the bato buckets are 3 gallon. Yes as you've noticed I have two plants per bucket, and no I don't think the root mass will get too crowded. I'm running growth cycles for 9 months. I have 230 buckets for a two pump system. My pumps are two Dosmatic Superdos 20 and they are injectors rather than electric pumps my "pumps" or "injectors", inject concentrate nutrient solution directly into the water line. Here are some specs on them for you.

Dosmatic® SuperDos® mid-high flow, water-driven proportional injectors are a low-cost alternative to traditional electric technology. Unlike traditional electric pumps, the SuperDos® Injectors eliminate the need for electricity and can operate in remote areas.

They are easy to install and maintain, making them ideal for mid-high-flow injection applications.

Features/Advantages:

Precise additive injection — proportional positive displacement ensures that just the right amount of chemical is injected each and every time regardless of pressure and flow
Safe and cost effective — patented one-way mixing chamber gasket prevents chemical contact with motor piston
Durable body construction — the engineered proprietary composite material withstands severe weather, the chemicals used for injection, and higher operating pressures
New mixing chamber design ensures a more complete mixing of water and injected chemicals before leaving the unit
Existing connections for a remote discharge kit
Standard NPT inlet and outlets eliminate the need for a separate connections kits
Same three lower end service parts exchange between SuperDos® and Advantage models
Specifications:

Flow Rate: 0.04 GPM to 20 GPM
Feed Ratio: 0.20% to 2.5% (1:500 - 1:40)
Operating Pressure: 5–100 PSI
Inlet/Outlet: 1" NPT
Maximum Temp: 100° F
Minimum Temp: 34° F
Housing Material: Proprietary Engineered Composite
Weight: 10 lbs.

I'm not sure what you mean by control bucket....but my nutrient barrels are 50 gal. I don't use air pumps. Yes Masterblend81 is a reference to my fertilizer and the year I was born.

Hope this answers your questions. If you have anymore just hit me up. I'd love to chat.
