Canning Jar Bands
Can you reuse the band part of a canning jar? Not the lid part - just the band.
The bands I have were used to store chili powder. They haven't been used to can with and they're not rusty or bent. Thanks |

Yes, the rings are reusable provided they are not bent or rusty.

Salt once the jar is sealed you need to take the ring off.
One so it doesn't rust up. The other you will be able to tell if the lid lost it's seal. Here is how I store the rings. In the kitchen hanging from a string with a bamboo skewer tied on the end that has been cut off short. With jams and jellies I'm not going to use all at once I just reach for a ring to put on the jar. Some of my rings are maybe 40 years old or more. I had a gift of some canning jars this Summer and when I opened them they had the nicest rings and flats I have ever have to work with, They were the Mainstays label from Walmart or Kmart... I want to say Kmart, though. I will go looking for them when I am near a Kmart next time.
