Green tomatoes just don't look right
Most of my green tomatoes are not uniform in color. There are many new types out in my garden that I have never grown before, but I just don't remember them being so blotchy. Is there some kind of nutrient deficiency going on? This is a Bloody Butcher. I took this photo very early this morning so please disregard the water droplets (white specks) on the fruit and leaves.

Looks fine to me.... in fact looks great considering you're in Iowa, zone 5 and already have fruit set!
I'm sure they'll start to look more "normal" to you as they mature. Nutrient deficiencies would also show up in the overall plant appearance, and yours look just fine. Lee

The one in the foreground is probably a fused bloom AKA mega bloom.
I have yet to have a fused bloom set this year. Not a big fan of them anyway. Worth |

Thank you Lee. I worry over so many things. I just have to much love, time, and money invested to have things fail. So much to learn!
Worth.. I read somewhere that kelp sprayed on the leaves and flowers help set fruit when it gets cold? My heater doesn't kick on until it gets down to 35. I was worried (once again) that the fruit might not set so I sprayed them down. They all set, but then I got tons of mega-blooms. Not sure if it was the kelp or cold stress. I personalty think having a few are kind of fun. Maybe I can win a prize for the biggest, ugliest tomato at the county fair this year! |
