Default To cut or not to cut

I have two eggplant plants that are barely one foot tall. Each plant has one eggplant on it. The variety is Diamond (supposed to grow about 9" long and 3" in diameter).

With the eggplants on the plant, the plant doesn't seem to be growing. Should I sacrifice the eggplant to get more growth out of the plant (and hopefully more eggplant), or should I just let the eggplant grow to full length and sacrifice the height of the plant?
