DIY self-watering container... smaller size

I made my current batch of DIY self-watering containers
using the 18 gal size.

I'm thinking of down-sizing that to the 10-gal size so I can
fit more of them into my small urban backyard.

I don't think the original Earthboxes are comparable to the
18 gal container size. But then again, I've never actually
"seen" a real Earthbox.

Very nice work.

I have not try container growing yet. Just curious, how heavy are these boxes after they are filled with soil and water? can they be moved around?

Targét has plastic containers on sale this week:

18 gal - $3.50

10 gal - $3

I forgot the price for the 30 gal. Sorry, I don't use
that size. It's just TOO big for my garden needs.

I bought two of the 18 gallon ones today! I just have to try this! I think I'll slap a Brandywine in mine. I have a block wall beside the basement door. I figure I can set it outside against that wall earlier than normal. I can always drag it into the basement if frost threatens.

I made sort of a "dolly" for my 18 gallon DIY- EB. It works well on hard- concrete surfaces. I cut a piece of 3/4 plywood about the same size as the container. Drilled 3/8" holes on the corners and inserted some cheap plastic castors that are used on chairs. It worked just fine ! Rob

So what you gonna do, when the plant reaches the top of the cage, and a 30 MPH winds sweeps in. Are you gonna be hanging on and ride it out? :-) If you hook that Lab to a harness you can train him to pull it behind the barn. :-)

Oh my gosh! I love that set up you made! I gotta see about making me something like that. I need to get a cage rigged too. I have the perfect...sorta...place to set mine when it starts getting big. I can tie the whole thing to the deck pilings to keep it from toppling over.
