Seed starting and container gardening in the tropics

Hello all,

I'll be going home to Ethiopia for several months and hope to grow some vegetables. I've done a bit before, and of course the folks there do it all the time, but I wanted to get some ideas from you all. No peat and no coconut media available.

I would think beans would be fairly easy, and if you have a support for them red noodle beans are fast to harvest.
