What's this vine??

I've enjoyed taking many pics of flowers this summer and came across this vine (at least I thought it was a vine, guess it could be a shrub??) growing in a drainage ditch up in the tree branches and brush foliage.
I am sure someone here will know what it is....... kinda pretty but didn't touch it until I know what it is!! Patty

appears to be hog peanut. it grows here in ct. edited to add - i just did a google image search. there are a lot of plants that look nothing like hog peanut that are shown! i just checked my audubon field guide to north american wildflowers and i still think it is hog peanut. flowers august to september in damp woodlands, west to texas and nebraska.

Hog Peanut? It's a pretty flower. Too bad it was named Hog Peanut.

Google Imagine seach,http://images.google.com/images?gbv=...=Search+Images , the foliage looks similiar but blooms seems different. I will have to watch to see if the pods develop. There's a big patch of poison ivy in front of the vine that will makes things hard to get very close. Never heard of Hog Peanut..thanks for info. Patty

It is Apios americana. The common name is usually Groundnut.

Looks like groundnut to me too.
It never fails to amaze me that we have so many edible plants that we don't eat anymore.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the groundnut police, one town north of here.
