Winter inside planting for Spring seeds
Hi Guys. I planted Dragon Tongue beans this summer but sadly ate all but a handful of the seeds I harvested. Was going to try to plant them inside to try to get a harvest to plant in the spring. Has anyone tried this and does it seem viable?

You could do it with sufficient light and heat - you can grow anything inside with the right set up, but it's gonna cost you - in electricity if nothing else.
I grow seedlings inside all the time, but if I were faced with the same issue, I'd buy the seeds. You can get a pound of seed for that variety from the SSE retail online store for $7.50. If they carry them in your local health food store you could probably get them cheaper. A pound is about 1000 seeds

Torelith,
While in theory, I suppose it is something that could be done - it doesn't sound very practical. Since you are going to need them to flower in order to produce beans for seed, that would require a lot of good quality light - more than one would easily get unless you have a sunroom or a quality light setup. I'd suggest ordering more seed for the spring. Two sources for Dragon's Tongue that I know of at this time is the Seed Savers Exchange Public/retail catalog (as Elizabeth indicated) and Baker Creek might still carry it too. ps - welcome to Tomatoville. |
