Default First Ripe Tomato

It's always nice to see the first ripe tomato of the new season 5-12-2017

This one is Sun Cherry F1.

It tastes on the sweet side of balanced. I'll let them ripen more for a more sweet taste.

Congrats on the first Tomato of the season. Most of mine aren't flowering yet and the ones that are haven't set any fruit yet. I have found as I get older my patience increases and I know it won't be too long. Hopefully!

Clear Pink Early, started August, 2016, transplanted in October and overwintered in a pop-up greenhouse. First ripe fruit picked today.

My 3rd ripe will come from Stupice. It look yellowish now but should get red soon.
The next variety will be a nice beefsteak (?). That is what I think.
From there on will be like a grand finally of firework.

BTW: Stupice is 2 weeks behind Sungold. It is supposed to be an early variety.

I'm envious!

It will be months before I see any tomatoes--just planted my tomatoes today.

Only got some little green nobs - it will take weeks before they're ripe.
But congrats to all those Southerners

I had to pick my first one yesterday. I hated to do it but it was blushing nicely and only an inch from the ground. It is a Neves Azorean Red that is easily over a pound so I wasn't going to leave it for the birds or squirrels to get. I always lose my first one to those buggers if I leave it to ripen too long. I don't mind so much when it is a small one but I hate to see bird pecks and bites ruin a big one. The plant was set out on March 20 so getting a large fruited variety first and an actual large tomato was a bit of a surprise.
We are getting some mid 90s now so the fruit will ripen surprisingly fast now and it is getting trickier to keep the moisture level where I can get good fruit set and not get split fruit from over watering. It is a balancing act once the fruits get near the ripening stage. If you don't water enough in this heat then too many blossoms drop and you get very few new fruits coming on. If you give them plenty of water and get great fruit set higher up then you split too many and cause the ripening fruit to taste bland.

I just love it when I get to the balancing the watering stage of tomato growing because I know I'll be getting ripe tomatoes for a good while if I can keep the balance right.

One Pounder, Bill ? Congrats . Thats great. My One Pounder is getting very light green. Any day now.
It is getting hot, hoe here. But luckily humidity is ok. 93F at this moment, with RH @ 66%.
So I think my tomatoes are getting pollinated. That is what I want now, to get lots of fruits set before the real heat /humidity arrives.
