Default Zapotec? What is this pepper?

Growing some "Zapotec" jalapenos from seed swap last year and the seeds germinated fine, grew and were transplanted into a 5 gallon bucket and doing well. Plant is prolific with loads of peppers, some going red at a small size and a few growing larger then red.

I've grown hot peppers for a few decades and don't think these are a jalapeno. Mildly hot with not too many seeds and ribs inside. Any ideas on what this "Zapotec" pepper is? Strange growing plant, spindly and leggy, not stout like a normal pepper plant.

While I've never personally grown them, the photo you posted doesn't look like examples of Zapotec Jalapeno I've seen posted elsewhere.
They look like a bit like a Pablano-type to me.

Could well be a cross if home saved swap seeds unless blooms were protected

Default Zapotec Jalapeno

Hi,
I have grown the Zapotec and found it to be a medium sized jalapeno (traditional shaped) and very flavorful.

Beth Boyd deserves the credit for discovering and popularizing this pepper. Read through these posts and your will see the story.

It is a shame but yours is definitely crossed with some other pepper because the Zapotec Jalapeno is a very good one.
