As a Missouri grower with little growing space (think patio containers), I am curious about the Missouri Rose. If it came from MO, it stands to reason that it likely grows well in our hot, humid summers and am curious to learn more. After a google search, the closest I could find was a "Missouri Pink Love Apple" at Baker's Creek. Is this perhaps the same? Most importantly, do you like the way this variety grows and tastes? Thanks for any info you might have

I'm always looking for a good heirloom variety that grows well here after being disappointed by types that sound delicious (like many of the black russian heirlooms) that originally come from cooler climates and don't tend to grow well in MO (at least for me).

Thanks, and best of luck with all your tomatoes!

I received the seeds in a round robin trade with no information other than the name. This is the first year I have grown it. It may very well be the same as Missouri Pink Love Apple which I have grown in the past. If you want seeds of either or both later on this year, let me know. A Russian commercial variety that does well for me is Mazarini, a large pink heart.

No, Missouri Rose is not the same as Missouri Pink Love Apple.

Ky, it's greg, isn't it, there are some others on yourlist that I'd also like to comment about if you want me to, one is what you call Elgin Purple which I just posted about here in theElgin thread, another is the vera one, not spelled correctly at all.And I forget the others now, but all to say it's a very impressive list.

I believe Missouri Rose came out of Bill's WMD pink line. One is R.L and the other P.L.?

Carolyn,

Please correct any errors and inform and edumacate me about any of the varieties. Veras Paradeiser has a couple of AKA's; I just spelled it the same way as was on my source seeds and is the listing on Tatiana's site. She may have it listed by the other names also, I did not check.

WMD Pink and Missouri Rose should both be PL.

Yes, Missouri Rose is from Missouri and it's great tasting and produces very well.

You've some great tomatoes on your list. Big Cheef is a winner for sure. Another great dark/purple tomato is Vorlon. It was very productive. I grew Klara this last year and was impressed enough with it to put it in again this year.

Jumala should be Jurmala - I'm growing it this year too and it's one of my largest and healthiest plants. Look forward to comparing notes with you.

Your are correct about Big Cheef; it has been in garden for several years; this is my first time to grow Vorlon. Also my first year for Klara and so far the plant looks very impressive. Thanks for the heads up on Jurmala; I actually caught that myself and intended to go back and change it but a senior brain moment happened and I did not until I read your post; it should be correct now.

Very impressive grow list. Your "PIG Liscio" seeds are on the way. I grew Klara this season but it started to develop fruit late and by the time Easter got here it was 98 degrees in the shade and it didn't make it. Vorlon is a good black variety tomato but not very productive for me. Prefer Amazon Chocolate or Chinese Purple. Never tried Big Cheef yet. Will get my grow list in order in the next month. As always, I keep changing my mind what to plant..except for my 10 ten favorites! Happy Gardening

Now if I can only get you to send me one tomato off each plant to taste hahaha just kidding. Your growing some varieties I haven't tried yet.

I am guessing you are retired or are a career farmer. Wow, that is a very long list! Are you only planting one of each? I am finding that 30-40 tomato plants is taxing enough to care for (mixed with other items in the garden). I started over 250 plants this year - tomato (8 varieties) and pepper (11 varieties) and will only grow out about 120 total of those for myself, mostly peppers ... the rest are to be given away, half of the remainder already have been, thankfully.
