Default beneficial bugs!

Beneficial bugs in my garden: I noticed lots of lady beetles on my yarrow, and looking closer, I also found some soldier beetles. They both eat lots of aphids.

I don't think I have ever seen one of those before. Very cool picture. Thanks for sharing it.

I haven't seen a lady bug in 10 years. Wish they would come visit my garden.

I was really surprised yesterday to find a parasitoid wasp on the window in my cold room where seedlings are huddled under a CFL. Then I remembered, I brought in an extra armload of wood in January, in case of more power outages. This one must have been diapaused under the bark.

The picture isn't great because the colours don't show up - but shows the basic shape pretty well. Lovely long antennae. The morning light is better, and I could see this is a red legged one, but by the time I got my camera out had disappeared somewhere.
