New Giant!
I had a taste of a new giant tomato last night.
Seed was sent to me by fellow Tomatovillian Jim in SC. It is called Kristinia Bulgarian #1. It is a large, pink tomato. Very meaty and mild tasting. The consistency is similar to the way a good piece of chocolate feels in your mouth as it slowly dissovles.... In other words, while this one is meaty, it is not gritty or pithy.... Very nice variety overall. Here's a couple of photos of the 1.75 pound monster my dad grew. Lee

It is big and certainly pretty but as soon as I looked at the second picture I immediately think of Brains. Which means either I need to stop taking Sudafed or crawl back into the grave I came out of. ( Must be too much sudafed if I am laughing at my own bad jokes )
By the way was it RL or PL? and how is its productivity? Just curious. |

WC73, Let me get back to you on that question.
It's growing in my dad's garden this year... mine died to TSWV, so I'll have to find out from him. I think he said it's been quite productive for him this year, but I'll check to give that you a quantifiable response. Lee OK, I've checked and the variety is RL and seems to be on par with it's neighobor Earl (Faux that is!) with regards to productivity.

Thanks for the info Lee. I was secretly hoping it was PL as I just have a fascination with them and have found much less leaf problems when compared to RL. The productivity sounds good though. I haven't grown Earls Faux before but it is in my collection for next year.
P.S. Sorry to hear about the TSWV. I have been lucky in my young Tomato growing life and have still avoided any deathly diseases so far and am not looking forward to the day I have to pull a plant. |
