Japanese Long Green Eggplant

Got this variety courtesy of Jeff Casey-thanks Jeff! Just picked my first one, going to grill it tonight. Have also picked one Kamo.

Excellent, smooth taste. We chopped it and put it in some pasta we had last night. Very good.

Sounds like it taste a lot like Thai Green and Louisiana Long Green.

I found them to be the sweetest eggplant variety that I have tasted.

I also planted from you New Long Nagasaki, Chiku You Naya (spelling?). They have both fruited, but no ripe fruit yet.

Here is a photo of Chiku You Naya (spelling?) that I just picked. Picked 4 of them. This one weighs 18 grams-small fruit. All of them about that size.

Poor handwriting on my part..... it should read Chiku you nasu-
nasu meaning eggplant in Japanese.
My Chiku you nasu has put out its first flower. I am still waiting on Kamo nasu.

Your handwriting was probably perfect-its my poor eyes that I bet is the problem.

I am growing some of the varieties you sent me-just put them out recently!

I notice in Japan that once the plant starts to peter out they prune it down and also root prune with a shovel around the plant. THis way they get a rejuvenated plant that will produce a good sized fall crop.
