I didn't click on the link (lest it freeze my system), but I was browsing catalogs and saw Bintje potatoes described as waxy and as the most popular potato in Europe. I've seen them at local farmers' markets as well as in U.S. catalogs.

This is a tough question to answer. Many varieties are grown in the United States but many are not readily available to backyard gardeners. Either the growers are tied up with licensing restrictions or Material Transfer Agreements, etc. It takes a few years for quarantine to allow some varieties to be imported. The only one in the Scottish list commonly available here is the Pink Fir Apple or Rose Finn Apple as we call this clone here. In order to educate folks on waxy potatoes and maybe drum up some demand for them, I have modified the link to the site mentioned in the first post. Simply click on the More Info link to learn more about this wonderful class of potato texture. I have personally tried 12 of the varieties listed below with a asterisk. I took a bit of time to show some detail on what I grow because as a potato breeder, I like to think that my crosses of many of the above list will be important in the future. My objective is to have TPS to get even more diversity among the many potato clones. Tom Wagner |

potatoes
Of the waxies Tom listed i've grown:
Charlotte Nicola Vanessa I liked all of them, particularly Nicola which we use as one of our main crop potatoes and usually plant about 500 pounds of them as seed potatoes. I'd love to try the Mayan Twilight, Blue Belle or Kestral, but only see them in England. They look absolutly gorgeous! Robbins |

British/European waxy/flavorful potatoes
I have reviewed the ARS list and contacted those recommended here. If anyone runs acroos or knows of a few sources for these varieties or others that are very discernably waxy and flavorful, where I can obtain a few tubers for non-commmercial propagation and testing in the conditions here in GA, I would appreciate the leads...GREATLY!
