That is bunk info.
The person doesn't even know their plants.
Okra on the night shade list really.

With the amount of tomatoes and peppers I eat in the summer I should be bedridden. Think I'll scoff this off.

I get muscle pain and joint pain all winter - it's from low vitamin D, I think. Not at all in the summer when I eat at least 3 full size tomatoes a day when in season! not to mention eggplant, peppers, and all the other good stuff.

I had a good Mexican friend of mine from Mexico tell me that they used to eat tomatoes and peppers for lunch every day when they were picking them.
He said it kept them going all day long.
It is what got me started on the way I eat now and that was back when I was in my 20's.
Sometimes if not all of the time in the summer I eat lunch in the garden.
A tomato or two and some peppers and water that is it.
I might pull a green bean or two and eat it.
If I get hungry again I just eat another pepper and tomato.

Ah, just thinking back 4-5 years before I started growing and eating so many tomatoes.. any increase in pain... nope.
Also no correlation between pain and days when the main carb is bread, rice, or potato.

Never eat potatoes that are green or bitter tasting. Those are the indicators of solanine. And it's a serious poison. Boil don't microwave potatoes if you are concerned about sub-toxic trace amounts of solanine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanine

Evidently tomatoes don't contain solanine at all, either... it is tomatine.
As for blueberries... what a crock!! There are toxic alkaloids (but certainly not solanine) in blueberry leaves... not in the fruits. So stop eating the bushes, already.

I think the guys some sort of over the top food hater quack doctor.
From his dont eat list we should just take a blow torch to the garden and pave it over with concrete.
The okra and pepper thing really ticks me off how dare him.

I'll keep eating those pain inducing nightshades until they can't manufacture enough opiates to keep me sane. The author was just looking for a paycheck. I'll bet that author went out and bought some potatoes and tomatoes and went home to supper.

Garbage, just a lot of garbage to feed the media. Too bad the media is so stupid.

Y'all 'scuse me. The DW has my BLT and french fries ready.

Later, Y'all

I have heard that some places in Europe people did not eat tomatoes , for a long time, thinking that they are poison.
I know one poison tomato like night shade:Its common name is HORSE NETTLE. It grows cherry size fruits that ripen to orange color. Its foliage and flowers look like eggplant. They are everywhere in GA and Carolinas.
However, I have read that night shade family of fruits can cause joint pain, by depositing certain minerals in the joints ... POTATOES, TOMATOES, EGGPLANTS....
I think there is some truth to that.

Dilemma, dilemma. My husband loves heirloom tomatoes and I love growing them. I've read about the Blood Type Diet, and pretended to have "unread" it..

The nightshade vegetables can cause lectin deposit in the tissue surrounding the joints.

Several classes of vegetables can cause big problems, such as the Brassica family (cabbage, cauliflower, etc.) can inhibit the thyroid function.

I have mild psoriasis, and there was a book out about a diet to combat it, which tells you to avoid half the foods under the sun. The worst offenders: coffee, tomatoes or any nightshade, and beer.

No wonder I have psoriasis; throw in peanut butter, and that's all I eat.

And cigarettes, and dairy, and meat, and wheat, and gluten, and sugar and chocolate and cakes... if life is worth living cutting out everything one enjoys.

I think we read the same book. Did you try the Slippery Elm concoction? It's quite gross...

I just heard a doctor on the news today talk about all of the bad side effects of cholesterol lowering drugs.

Not Good.

This is what killed my brother, the doctors at the VA put him on a drug then another one.
By the time it was over he had a huge box of pills he had to take every day.

If only he would have listened to me he would still be alive.

Bottom line about diet, in my opinion, is to eat a variety of things in moderation, and not to eat more of any one thing than what agrees with you. Everyone is unique and different in what they need at any given moment and what disagrees with them.
Somebody once said "Never eat anything bigger than your head". I sometimes remember that. as it makes sense to me.

I've always trusted my own sense of what I like, what makes me feel good and what makes my mouth water.

Yes, there's a limit to how many brassicas I can enjoy on a daily basis ad infinitum. I like them best mixed with other vegetables.
Even tomatoes, yes, I do certainly grow more than I can eat. And what makes them appealing day after day? A little olive oil, garlic, green onion, the sprig of basil or parsely or rosemary, the things that go with tomato are crucial for me to enjoy "all you can eat".
Same goes for every food or vegetable.
You might crave one thing and find it delicious today, then overdo it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.
All the same, the adverse health effects of foods that are claimed by these quacks (sorry quacks) are only possible, in my opinion, if you scarfed the most ridiculous quantities and deprived yourself of well rounded nutrition.

Its a world of fads, diet and medicine.
A grain of salt is good for the thyroid.
