Default Roselle is blooming

Roselle hibiscus is one of my garden toys this year because I read that the flower calyxes can be used to brew an old time, refreshing red tea. The young leaves can also be used in salads and stir fries. I've got four plants that I started from seed. Three have been planted in the ground and the nicest one is in a big pot out in the garden. They're starting to bloom. The flower is about 2" wide at most and nothing remarkable but that's not what it's being grown for.

This is a good link with a video about growing and using Roselle:

Very nice! Your heatwave this year is perfect for Roselle. I bet you get fruit, and lots of it soon.

I got the seeds at Southern Exposure, probably about 20 seeds in the pack. The variety is 'Thai Red'. They were started March 6, germinated in three days and nice 12" plants were set out May 11. As they need a long season of warm to hot weather for full calyx production they should do well here.

Here's a link that includes a good video on Roselle and the food uses for various parts of the plant:

Thank you, I’ve often thought I should be growing this.
