Flower Cuphea Ignea seeds wanted
This little cuphea used to be commonly found at the nurseries here in the spring and used in hanging baskets but has not been available for several years now. I grew one alone in a pot one year and found that the hummingbirds were crazy for it.
The variety I seek is not to be found available online except possibly in a mix. (too much trial and error) Many will not ship to Canada. The one I want is small flowered, bright yellow/orange. An old fashioned variety. The small flowered bright purple I see online now would be ok too. Thought I'd give it a shot and ask here. |

You mean the cigar flower? Seeds were usually available from the sort of
catalogue that also included Blue Lace flower. Both plants have flowers that are much smaller than the catalogue photos promised. I have never seen it available as a plant. Proven Winners is selling a hybrid, Vermillionaire, that has flowers that look quite a bit bigger than C ignea but the same shape. My hummers will like it. |

Thanks for your reply.
I winter over the Vermillionaire. It also roots easily from cuttings in the spring. The cuphea I seek is elusive. I have looked. |
