I transplanted 1 Kimberly to a large pot (16 gallon or so?). It had a small fruit on it about the size of a blueberry at transplant time. The plant grew steadily but the fruit just sat there. It has finally begun to swell a bit.

I left a few other Kimberlys in their 32 oz. pots. The plants have grown slowly, but the fruits have continued to swell. Here's a close-up:

Egh... my largest fruit on Kim is way bigger than either one of theirs.
(but they'll be having the last laugh late July and August when it's 100+ degrees here, and I'm pulling blighty, worn out plants)

Bully, doubles don't qualify. But danged if I can figure out why. Was that one of your rules?

Speaking of rules we said they had to be planted in the ground no later than 16 weeks after germination and that there could be no fruit on the vine at that time and that they had to be in the ground, no containers.

I still have until mid may to put it in the ground but I'll be darned if I'm removing any fruit, it was my rule but now that I have waited 7 months for a ripe homegrown tomato I don't think I have it in me to remove any buds or fruit.

This guy started turning on Friday, I'm not sure how red Kimberly gets but It feels "ready"


You can see the date just above the tomato on our Church paper...for you doubting Thomases (coincidentally that's who the homely was about this week.LOL)

Earl's rules:
Rules open for discussion:
Must live on edge or in Zone 5.

Plants must be grown in the soil outside.

Plants can't be over 18 feet tall when planted, I mean 18 inches.

Fruit must be salad type or larger.

SHers can't play.

Winner gets to spend two weeks with Bully or Dawg during the premier fruit picking season in '06.

Bully's rules:
No dwarfs! (by this I mean the tomato plant varieties, little people are more than welcome)
Must be transplanted outdoors no later than 10 weeks after germination.

Winner gets their copy of:
100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden, signed by none other than Carolyn J Male

It doesn't count because it is still in a container but Earl did ask for the 10 week rule be changed to 16.
