We grew them the last couple of years. While I didn't try them the Mrs and her friends ate them raw and loved them. Unfortunately we will not have any this year. Though we saved them in a box filled with cedar shavings they all rotted. I feel even worse as I had promised some to TVers.

Welcome Matthias!
You should be able to grow Yakon in Germany, it grows well for me in NL. The taste is similar to watermelon, sweet, juicy and crunchy (but a bit firmer then watermelon consistency). As for Yambean, it need an indian summer to grow well in west Europe, but it should grow well in a green house though ! Taste wise, it is also crunchy similar to a water chestnut, but I find water chestnut tastier (also drier and nuttier). |

Yacon is easy, but you need a long frost-free season, enough space, and for best yields, rich soil and plenty of water.
