I know this isn't the feedback thread, but since you mentioned it, Sen-Say has the largest fruit of any of my plants even though it's among the shortest. This photo was taken about a week ago.

Default Sort Of Report

I managed to lose the pages I kept of my mini-greenhouse maps that were also my germination records. So here we go from memory:

Dixiewine About 50% germination, strong plants in the garden

Raspberry Miracle About 75% germination, 2 strong plants in the garden

Zachary About 50% germination, 2 strong plants in the garden

Podarok Fei Only one seed germinated with a very weak seedling. Nursed it along a bit and have it on the deck in a big pot, in case we have a "BAD" Monterey Bay summer. Plant looks good, healthy, blooming. Should be able to save seed, at least.

Carolyn,

I've been meaning to tell you, Don's Double Delight was my first beefsteak to get flowers!

Sakharnyi Pudovichok also has flowers.

Absinthe, Malinovoe Chudo, Rozovyi Izumnyi, and Serendipity are doing well!

Thanks!

PS - Is this the right thread????

Just noting thatI'm wayyyy behind in making comments about your germination reports, but I'll get there eventually.

Donna M,you can post updates if you wish, but full reports will be given when I put up the performance thread in the Fall.

Don's Double Delight 5 of 8 2012 potato leaf
Mortgage Lifter Estler 4 of 4 2013 dropped seeds
Maria Azazilitei Giant Red 0 of 5 2013
Dixiewine 1 of 6 2013 found in the cell next to where it should have been
Dester 7 of 13 2012

We are really late this year. I still need to get these in the ground -- hoping for a late fall

Zachary (2013) (2/5) germinated
Heartbreaker (2013) (4/5)
Ciliega, aka Nano Ciliega (2012) (2/6)
Raspberry Miracle (2013) (2/6)
Fatima (2013) (3/6)
Zolotoe Serdtse (2012) (2/6)

Craig's YouTube video on dense planting taught me a lot -- how to try lots of varieties in 1x1 inch square.

I wanted to give a complete report on Dixiewine results posted here. I bought some from that lady who you all don't like to mention here. I had 2/5 germinate, so different source than Carolyn's.
Post by post, here are you all's germination of it:
#4- 1/5
#8- 2/4
#10- 2/8
#15- 4/5
#29- 5/10
#45- 2/8
#54-6/8 but only 2 emerged or not helmet bound
#66- 2/7
#100- 2/6
#107- 5/9
#122- 50%( no actual number reported)
#125- 1/6
#127- 2/6
So pretty much it is 50% or a little below in germination, even mine which were from a commercial source.
Don't know what conclusions can be drawn, if any.

Thanks Ginger. The seeds i distributed were a gift, not done by my seed producers, and I was very greatful to have them sent to me.

When I spot a variety that's in trouble with germination I do the same thing you did with Dixiewine, and if you read the Dragoevo thread here I noted that germination with that variety and Cartago Pear were so low that I didn't offer the seeds the next year.

The results with Dixiewine are typical of what I've seen for the last 20 years or so of doing seed offers. That is, a huge range of germination for a single variety. And that's b'c no two persons germinate seeds the same way, as to the medium used, heat used or not, using coffee filters instead of a good seed starting mix, using domes or not, using bottom heat, or not, etc.

In some data book somewhere i kept the germination reports from when I was doing seed offers at Garden Web, and I'm sure similar results from seed offers I did here. That is, with the exact same seeds someone will get 100% germination and a different person will get no germination.

As long as a person gets a couple of plants from the 5-6 seeds I send out for the newest varieties, I'm OK with that.

I can't speak to those who buy the same seeds from any vendor since I have no idea what the seed age is, which is yet another variable which is why I send out more seeds for varieties that are older and which is why in this latest offer I deleted previous offers with older seeds. Too bad for that, since I still have seeds of some really great varieties, but I'm not distributing them.
