Default Worth's Soil Building Thread.

Here I am going to do the best I can to show you guys what I have been up to.
In the pictuers you will see are a duck billed shovel stuck in the ground and tilted up.
This soil was almost solid red clay when I moved here.
You will see the compost pile I do not take compost from it and it has been here for years.
I put just about everything under the sun in it.
The worms carry it off and disperse it in the soil around the area.
It is not a hot compost pile it is a cold compost pile.
I allow fungus and other microorganisms to break it down.
The next pitcher you will see is the lettuce and so on.
You will notice the plants are bigger closer to the compost pile and the good soil.
This time of year and later as long as it is damp you will always see worms in the soil.

Pictures coming soon.

In the soil picture above you may have noticed the worm.
I took the time to lift up some leaves in the compost so you could see a worm it is crawling with them.
In my opinion cold composting is better than hot composting.

Next project at the end of my driveway will be a 4X12 end bed this area catches all of the rain and silt runoff plus I am stacking leaves and yard debris.
And another worm working for me.
I'm not building soil I am providing an environment for it to happen naturally.
There aren't many places in nature you will see a hot steaming compost pile.
By the end of the summer I wil have about 48 cubic feet of usable soil here.

I cant see the river but not too far away I live just outside of town and the river runs through town.
Then there is the lake about a mile and a half away to the north east of me.
I live off the road the goes to the lake.

I agree with your soil building.

We live between two small towns. My mailing address is Grandview. How it got it's name? It is a grand view of I35...not much else. It is 7 miles to our east.

The other town is about 7 miles to our west and called Rio Vista. There is a river there that had a lot of water in it back when dinosaurs roamed the area. But you have to drive to see it.
