BER? Maybe cracking?

Hello!

Just installed a drip irrigation system for all my container tomatos. Really noticed last week with the 1st hot day that it was going to be a necessity. Anyway, while installing it noticed maybe 3 tom's with the below characteristics. Any idea if it's BER or simple cracking?

This is known as catfacing, a sign generally of incomplete pollination, common in early tomatoes in beefsteak varieties, often the fruit of compound or mega blooms will display this. Not a disease, these fruit are edible although they will often ripen unevenly.

Excellent, thanks so much. It was in an odd spot and low to the ground on a debut dwarf (runt at 10") that I was moving to a different area to make room for a couple new indeterminate plants, so I plucked it off. Figured it would rot either way if it was hanging in water for the rest of its 'vine life'.

good call, sometimes the crevices created in these misshapen fruit do invite moisture to collect and fungus can be an issue. Let your plant put it's energies into getting resettled in it's new spot.
so now slice it up and fry it...
