Sluggo isn't labelled as toxic, because that label would hurt sales. While reading directions is important, so is proper labelling.

Guilty, just ask my wife.

I used this product last year with great success, but I didn't have any animals entering my garden that I would not want to poison. My cat is smarter than that, but now that I have a dog I will stop using it unless I can teach her the boundaries of the garden.

maybe a fence would help.

i can't see how you can make a dog that would be attracted to eating sluggo stop that behavior. if the dog would be able to jump a 6' fence then maybe a fence isn't going to work.

perhaps some folks will have to stop using sluggo, i would if i feared my dog would get into it.

I am trying the spray around the edges with diluted chelated iron (for
plants) and beer this year. I do not know if it will work, but it definitely
does not look like something he might be interested in eating.

This is what was worrying some folks:
"Like metaldehyde baits, these iron phosphate baits are mostly a food-based pellet that smells strongly like cereal to attract the slugs from a distance. Unlike the metaldehyde baits, the iron phosphate baits do not appear to contain Bitrex to prevent unintentional ingestion by pets and children.Bitrex is an extremely bitter-tasting substance that most mammals will not eat. The EPA recently mandated that metaldehyde bait products sold in the U.S. increase their Bitrex amount tenfold to reduce the risk of accidental poisonings. Iron Phosphate baits like the popular Sluggo do not list Bitrex as an ingredient, and are not required or presumed to have it."
I'll quote myself quoting the original article in response to animals being attracted to it. Specifically the smells like cereal part

Squirrels here love it. Sluggo and Worry Free they consider a tasty snack.
I do not know if it has any effects on their health. (I can almost see
B54red's ears perk up at the suggestion. Rather expensive for squirrel
bait, though.)

Maybe I'll go back to Diatomaceous Earth. My guess is that the catalog providers are unaware of this issue.
