Default EarthTainer Photo Update May 31 (Pics)

Almost forgot with all the hoopla going on here yesterday with Gary Ibsen building his own EarthTainer, that I forgot to post photos of the TOMATOES!! I am seeing an inch per day of new growth, on average.

The Cherokee Purple is now over 8 feet tall

About 30 fruitset per plant on the Purple Haze

Corn is well over 2 feet high

And the Stupice are really cranking out fruitset

And they have been first to ripen

All in all, not bad for Northern California in late May....

I'm looking forward to the construction video of these earthtainers you've made.

Is there a scheme to your tomato pruning? Nice loaded Stupice!!!

Outsiders,

As we have postage-stamp sized yards in California, instead of "horizontal" space, we need to make best use of "vertical" space. Granted, I am jamming in 48 tomato plants where most folks would be content with 15 or 20, my goal is to grow about 500 heirloom plants over the next 10 years or so, to try flavor, etc.

Pruning tightly to each cage will be the order of the day.. so I don't wind up getting lost in a tomato jungle.
