Jenn,
Sorry but you are too late. It is 87 now, after a high of 91. But, starting Wednesday it cools off to normal temps the next 4 days: high of 71, lows of 51. Carolyn, like you, if I keep my house closed off it'll fend off the heat for a while. After back to back 90's, it's 68 now inside, up from 65 yesterday. And the garden is loving this heat! Corn, cukes, potatoes and chard have finally popped up, and lots of tomato flowers are open. |

Weather says high was 98 yesterday and that is a record, but they are not using my thermometer which has read 100 for the last three days. My most recently transplanted tomato seedlings, a Big Zac, 2 Cherokee Purple and one Chocolate, a Mortgage Lifter and a Green Giant look the best though! They were planted in Earl's Holes! Even thought they are small they do not seem to mind the heat!
The rest of the tomatoes look ok but a little droopy sometimes and the beans and cukes wilt badly everyday. I have lost tons of other seedlings, they were not out in the sun but the heat was still too much ;*( I counted on a regular June for my late start garden....late freeze, late frost, early heat WHAT A YEAR! No rain here for over two weeks now. Supposed to be back to close to normal this week with lows from 69-71 and highs from mid eighties to 91 or so. Beleive me that is a RELIEF from the last week here. Funny thing is I forgot about my Sweet 100's at the back of the house for about the whole darn week. Am guessing I did a great job of putting dirt back there that retains water because only one of six had any droop and the others had grown taller and produced both flowers and tomatoes. That silly little cherry tomato is a glutton for punishment! Ya'll keep cool now and those of you with too much rain how about filling up some tankers and sending it my way! Kelley |
