I had my first heirloom tomatoes today!
I know it is kinda late in the season for my part of the country but I had my first heirlooms today. Between starting them late and BER. I ate a Rutgers (very tomatoey) and a Black Krim (out of this world! I am definately saving seed from that plant.) My fouth of July guests all had a very small piece. Also had cherry tomato tastings consisting of yellow pear, red cherry, sweet 100, and Itialian ice. The concensus was pretty much everyone loved the black krim. I gave a black Krim plant to a friend at work and hers became ripe about 3 days ago, she shared it with her mother and they both loved it as well. Another friend asked me to grow her a few next year. Here is to heirlooms becoming big in East Texas! I can not wait for my other different kinds to ripen.

If you like Black Krim, also try Black From Tula. I had both this season. BFT was super productive and while they both tatse equally good, my two Black Krims had concentric cracking and the BFT had none. It's graet that you are getting tomatoes now. I'm having to chop up all of mine, due to those darn stink bugs. I've had a fantastic season (prestink bugs), but it still hacks me off that several fruit are still on bushes and are ruined. I don't want to use Malathion because I have bunches of bees and ladybugs and don't want to kill them |
