the 1st sun golds
i can't say for sure this happens every year but this is the 2nd or 3rd year in a row that the 1st week or 10 days of picked sun gold are lousy.
the 1st few are sour. then they have no taste. after about 10 days they are excellent. is this typical for sun gold? i've been growing sun gold for 4 or 5 years. my seeds always come from tgs. it is really a surprise to eat that 1st tomato of the season and especially a sweet sun gold and it is sour! tom |

Tom,
So far all the sun golds have been great this year! (Also from TGS) Although my 2 kids ate most/all of them for the first week, so I can't say for sure! Lee

Also from TGS. I ate the first ripe one from my garden - it was sweet. Sometimes I pick some that are not quite fully ripe and they are a little tart, but that doesn't sound like what you are reporting. The first few regular toamtoes are always a little strange for me. With the drought we are experiencing this year has been really wierd.

Tjg911.... I have been growing Sungolds every year since about 1989 when Craig introduced me to them and have never had a sour one yet. Cannot imagine why you would get an off-tasting Sungold. I would say this is definitely
not typical for Sungold, from my experience.

Tom,
I'm not sure what the cross over between here and GW is but there is a similar thread currently over there: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/l...365815.html?10 Terry Light |
