Yaponskiy Tryufel (red)!

Seed sourced from Andrey from Belarus (along with others), this tomato has some real bite to it. It looks like a gigantic red pear tomato, and you would think by looking that it was perhaps a paste tomato, but no...these fruits pack a punch. Pick some up from your local Russian tomato seed supplier

I have to say, this year is the year of the "Russian" tomatoes (better to say ex-Soviet). Zlatovlaska is a wonderful orange-ish tomato; Aurora is now my new favorite early tomato; Orange-1 is another wonderfully fresh flavored orange tomato whose production is much better than KB or KBX (from my experience).

I got Orange-1 from Andrey, via Earl, several years ago and liked it very much and have been listing it in the SSE Yearbook for several years now.

While you compared yield to KB and KBX I think it's fair to say that the fruits of Orange-1 are only maybe 4-5 oz but it has the same vibrant orange color as does Earl of Edgecombe, which I also like very much.

I was speaking in total yield from a plant, but you're right, KB does produce larger fruit, but I normally don't get very many off of one plant. Flavor-wise (which is paramount to me), it's probably a draw between KB and Orange-1. KB does have a better texture, almost creamy.

...further praise goes to Tasmanian Blushing Yellow!

Excellent flavor, balanced, right amount of juice. Productivity is unclear as the amount of shade I get throws off productivity significantly.

Carolyn, I loved Orange-1 too when I grew it from your seeds 3-4 years ago. Unfortunately, it was my martyr plant, as every stinkbug in the area went for it, but did leave the other 32 alone. I started the last 3 this year, got 1, but it didn't make it due to the seed stuck in the cotelydons:-(

I'm very glad you like tomato varieties from CIS.
Actually last year one Orange-1 plant managed to give me a moster (for this tomato variety!) fruit of 350 g. Leonid Mishin from our local Institute of Vegetable Gardening, the real "father" of Orange-1, Vezha, Vodar and many more Belarusian tomato, pepper and eggplant varieties" was shocked because he had never seen Orange-1 fruits more than 200 g
