Default Photon

Hi,

I just ordered seeds for a Russian variety called Photon (described as a flavorful red saladette type, determinate vine, 70 days). The seeds came late but I might try to get them started anyhow (I'm in USDA zone 9b/Sunset zone 16/17). Does anyone have experience with this variety?

Thanks in advance.

GTG,

All I can tell you is a listing in the 2006 SSE Yearbook for it from someone in GA who got the seeds from someone in NM in 2002 who had moved from TX to NM.

70 days, det, dwarf 2 ft plants produce a nice crop of salad size round, red flavorful fruit, from Russia.

So it looks like seeds for this variety have been available since about 2000 or so. I didn't Google it and I didn't look in other back SSE Yearbooks but can if you want me to.

And you bought seeds so it's offered commercially here in the US?

Carolyn,

Yes, I bought it from a commercial supplier who offers a collection of East European tomato varieties. I also looked it up in the 2006 SSE Yearbook, and it looks ("sweet and tart") promising. Thanks.
