Rapid foliage color change..... input please.
After the last hail storm I covered all my plants for 36 hours or so to avoid any further hail damage.
Do you think this sudden discoloring (pale yellow/green at base of leaves) is due to that or something else. It has also been cooler, and rainy. (tomatillos too) [img]

Cold rainy weather spells yellowing leaves.
The soil becomes waterlogged and so oxygen and nutrients can be taken up by the roots. iF the coinditions persist for too long the leaves will go from yellow to brown. if the plants were in standing water it would be much worse and I've had plants die under those conditions. And different varieties can react differently to waterlogged soils. But the sun will come out tomorrow, tomorrow, she sang, and all will be well when the soil dries out and it gets warmer.

Thank you
That's what I was hoping for!
They are in raised beds, but the soil has a LOT of "OM" in it and it holds a lot of water. Thanks again!!

It might be that the plants are getting so much water, nutrients, and growing so fast that color hasn't had time to catch up.

I'll even take the cold if you'll send rain - no tomatoes out here yet - though with all the warm weather it's been tempting!

It has been one bizarre spring... so far. I'm just south of you guys in KC, but our weather has been pretty much the same. We spent Saturday in KC shopping for a new digital camera, and were going to stop at the Earl May on Roe Ave. in Overland Park, but it's not open any more. When did it close? I was going to see if they had any unusual eggplants. Sunday it was warm... no... it was HOT. Highs in the 90s. I was in the garden planting zucchini and cucumbers that I had pre-sprouted in damp paper towels. Monday it was a little cooler, only about 80°, and we got rain. YIPPEE!! Tuesday it never got out of the 50s, and this morning the low was about 40°.

Dave - come by the Brookside Farmers Mkt - Saturdays - 8-1, at 63rd and Wornall - lots of varieties of eggplants and tomatoes offered there along with many other goodies. Plus you may run in to other GW's and Tomatovillians.

I wish it was $2.85 here...we're looking at $3.10 and up.

Ciao all,
I don't really want to be an "Oh yeah, well it's worse here", but it kinda sorta is. We Canucks have been paying $3.25 US/gal for a while now. And here in Toronto, gas prices can fluctuate 25c or more throughout the day. It's crazy, but there's nothing we can really do about it, so I just accept it and try not to grumble. It can be convenient and fun to blame something or someone about it, but it sure doesn't change anything. C'est la vie...

Actually, the higher prices here have more to do with the reformulated gas we must use...
Arnie's not the only one driving a Hummer...they are very common around here. The maintenance supervisor at my mom's apt bldg drives one.
