I have tried Marmande several times and was totally underwhelmed by it. Maybe it was my soil of something, but most other tomatoes in my garden have a nice strong flavor and this was totally undistinguished.

One of my favorite slicing tomatoes is St. Pierre. It has a lovely sweet/acid flavor. It's also usually the earliest and latest to fruit, and it seems resistant to cracking and BER; at least that's the case with the seed stock I have, which I bought in France. Rose de Berne is a close second in terms of flavor, and it's probably red enough to satisfy your DH!
