I had a similar experience in 2008 and I believe we had the same seed source, but different years. I used the same seeds again last year to see, and I got several orange red fruit of about the same shape and color.

Your seed vendor is in the photo label is it not?

creister, yes, the file name of the jpg I posted, contains the seed source. I am going to just throw out those seeds and start over again.

That was my plan as well. Still an excellent place to buy seeds from. Neither fruit was notabley tasty for me either.

Yeah that is not typical and NOT usual for Sandhill - like Carolyn said earlier here or another post something about all vendors in that they are not perfect and they all can make mistakes -

For me just don't do it 3 years in a row or I am done with them

That's exactly why I will still order seeds from them, because for the most part, they provide excellent service. Especially since it is a "part time" , not really, service they provide.

I bought a Black Plum seedling one year, and got what looked like Black Plum two other years from plants labeled as Black Cherry one year and Brown Berry the next year. None of the BPs were bags-o-seeds. They were reliable and productive. I liked the flavor, which means it was not tart and not bland. But I don't recall if it was sweet -- certainly it wasn't as sweet as a SunSugar or a Sungold. I'd grow it again if I had enough space and weren't tempted by about a hundred other varieties I want to try!
