It is normal that it produces several male flowers first, but then it will produce both flower in the sametime. The plant is not exacly bush, mine reached 2.5meter at the end of it's growing season. If it grows close to a fence, train it up (tied it up accordingly) or build a tripod so that it grows vertically, leaving some space for other plant.
