Default Mottled Leaves?

I discovered this on some leaves on one of my tomato plants. What the heck is it? Should I pull the plant, remove the leaves, some other treatment? Out of 64 plants this is the only one like this so far. Only other plant that has anything similar is a broccoli and that isn't exactly the same anyway. I posted pictures of both, just in case.

Thanks,

Jen

Also, it is on leaves towards the top of the plant. I don't see any aphids or other insects on it.

The tomato looks like virus especially with the way the leaf is roughened. I don't know about the broccoli.

I thought a virus too. I don't really care about the broccoli so much, just illustrating in case it is relevant.

To me, it looks like edema of the foliage, as I recall it can happen when there's lots of rain.

I don't think I've seen any leaves like that that are caused by a virus. Besides if it were, and most viruses are insect transmitted, it wouldn't be the only one to show it.

So, you ask, why one plant with foliage edmea? Beats me, but that's my best guess right now. Actually diifferent varieties can transport water differently.

Above is a Google link to a search for edema and tomato foliage. Search out the ones that give pictures if that helps. and also zero in on the Crnell and NCSU links.

Thank you for responding Dr. Carolyn! Well, edema doesn't sound so bad! You may have saved that plant's life. I was about to pull it for fear it would spread to the other plants and kill my whole garden.

It has been very, very humid, rainy, and not very sunny lately. We had more rain, a good soaking over night. Right now it's dark and gray out at 10:30 a.m. I think it will be sunny starting Tuesday.

Thanks again,

Jen
