Pics of my 1st three to ripen
These are my 1st three non-cherry to ripen. I harvested them yesterday. From the left, Monomak's Hat, Kumato, and Mammoth German Gold which is 12.4 oz.

Very nice. Now all you need to do is post some shots of them sliced. =)
Got me itchin' for some of my Brandywines to hurry up & ripen. I'm guessing that kumato isn't done ripening yet? Thought it was supposed to be a dark red color? |

Lucky you! I'm staring at a few green cherries. So you know a ripe regular size one is a long way off.

I'll jump in as another "jealous," lol! I got my first "blusher" yesterday... Matt's Wild Cherry... figured first one or not, it would be too weird to bring it in and let it ripen on my counter!!!
Hope we get a flavor report! |

All three varieties were planted the first or second week in May.

Hey, Greg! I'm in KY also, and just got my first blush tomato today! Looks like KY tomatoes are right on the edge of ripeness. Tomato sandwich time!

I am in Hopkinsville in Western KY; I noticed Timmah is in what a lot of Kentuckians call E-town.

That's how alot of us locals write it. I like Elizabethtown, it sounds more reflective of the pleasant demeanor of the area. Been reading up on the nice Crider soil in my particular area of the Commonwealth. Well drained, deep, & deep, very deep.
You can discover about anything you would like to know about the soil in your very specific locale here: http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/a...oilSurvey.aspx Just plug in your area & click on the desired characteristics. Last edited by Timmah!; July 1, 2010 at 11:47 AM. |

I'm in the Lexington area, so among the three of us, we've got most of the state covered....
