Spudleaf Willies 2006 Garden Report- 6-26-06
Here is a breakdown of the Spudleaf Garden as of 6-26-06:
Oldest seed germinated was 16 years and took 23 days. Lost only 5 out of 108 varieties germinated but not transplanted 103 different varieties (93 spudleaf, 10 regular leaf). 203 total # of plants 103 total # of individual containers (from 2 to 26 gallon) 10 crosses of various varieties 125- 8 foot bamboo poles for supports 10 pounds of jute twine for tying plants to stakes 664 total hours of time spent as of 6-25-06 18 pounds lost since 3-1 (Dr. is happy w/ results) 40 foot long stone wall built 5' high and 18"thick, plus 5' wire fence on top of wall (built to keep out the deer and other critters). Galinas was first w/ripe fruit on 6-20 Kimberly is turning, expect ripe fruit about 6-27 All varieties are flowering with about 40 % w/ green fruit Black varieties growing like mad and setting fruit in our 90-100F weather. Hope the fruit color is very dark. PRAY FOR "NO HAILSTORMS" DURING OUR UPCOMING MONSOON SEASON starting about July 1!!! And best of all I feel great, both physically and mentally!!! Dreaming of rainbow colored BLT's with lots of mayo, Yum !!! Is a harvest of 1 ton of maters possible out of this garden?? I have several markets who will take all I can grow! Bill-Been the worst year for me in so long-a neighbor got pesticide drift and wiped out a bunch of plants-then the heat came and we have had >100 degrees for days-huge amount of blossom drop. Very depressing. I am replanting some dwarves now. Glad your season is doing so well.
