Both Bear Creek and Gary'O Sena have a definate sweetness, in my mouth. But I really like Dora too. I'm trying to remember the taste of Liz Burt, but do remember it was my least favorite - or at least I think that's why I'm not growing it this year. Bear Creek is my favorite!

I hope you'll send seeds to Carolyn, and she will introduce it to SSE if it's good enough. I would also like to try your grandmother's tomato, and I can send some Polish commercial varieties to you.

I had stated in a previous posting that I thought Liz Birt was the best tasting of the sisters...but I hadn't tasted Bear Creek yet.
Well, now I have and I have to say that Bear Creek is the best tasting! It has jumped into the #1 spot in my taste tests. Not just leaping ahead of the other darks like Amazon Chocolate and Dana's Dusky Rose, but ahead of all tomatoes from Cowlicks and Barlow Jap to all the other Brandywines, and those like Mrs Benson and Stump of the World. A really tasty tomato in whats become a terrible tomato year here in south central Pa. with the extreme heat and drought. Might be one to consider in your future plantings. Enjoy Camo |
