Ultimate Container Growing Setup
Doesn't ContainerTed live in the TN countryside? This setup could be adapted to tomatoes:

All those lights draw a lot of power, when a house has a super high power bill the power company notifies the police.

Very interesting photos of their "Cave". It amazes me that people as obviously motivated as this owner was, can't see the big picture as oc tony indicated, and didn't install solar powered electricals, to not raise the suspicion of the authorities. That, is the true irony of not thinking through the consequences of your actions.

Well, even if they went off-grid, they could still be tracked down by infrared. I know this from watching dvds of the cable series Weeds.

As much effort, time, & money went into that setup, I suppose one could maintain a ambient temperature to match the surrounding subsoil; heck, even install pipes under the floor of the house like they do to warm the floors in some houses; then run the water through there to dissipate heat collected in the growspace. |

I guess I am constantly amused by stupidity like this - of spending $$$ to hide something as clandestine an operation as this was - - yet not think through how their Power Bill would be an instant giveaway, as oc tony pointed out.
I am bemused by a similar playout here in Silicon Valley this week of absolute stupidity by the CEO of HP in trying to deflect a few thousand dollars in erroneous Expense Reports, yet the BOZO has been forced to give up a salary of $35 million per year, and is now a Leper in the Tech Industry, let alone what he has done to his family. Why don't people think through what their actions translate, into the Real World??? Raybo |

It must have been quite excavation project when digging that cave. Neighbors should have noticed something. We have been drilling and splitting rocks to make room for my GH, but nothing that elaborate and I will only grow unprofitable crops like tomatoes.
I remember when that story was in new few years back. I think they were caught because they had bypassed the electric meter and the utility company started to look where does all the power go. Sari

The whole story:
http://sparkreport.net/2009/03/the-f...ssee-pot-cave/ We had just sold our house in end of 2007 and would have had enough money to attend the auction. If we were not planning to return to Finland, I could have started an year around tomato growing operation in the cave. =D
