Just been squizzing through the Victory Seeds site and came across these following varieties.
Ashleigh
Marglobe
Rozovyi Gigant
Tennessee Britches
Anyone here grow these varieties before and what would your opinions be regrding these for taste ..

The only one I know even a little about is Marglobe. As I understand it, Marglobe was a very popular tomato but reached its peak in popularity years and decades ago. It's still available in in my region, Southeast USA, and people still plant it. But I never hear one word about it during the season. It seems to have been replaced by Better Boy, Big Boy, Big Beef, and Goliath. People still plant them here and I have never heard one bad thing about Marglobe....and not one good thing either. It's just sorta there. Seems to be one of the big stars of mediocrity.

I am growing Tennessee Britches. Planted it late and am looking forward to tasting it. I've heard that it tasts great. We'll see.

If you look at the blurb for Ashleigh you'll se my name as the source of seeds to Mike, so yes, I think it's a great tomato with great taste and he must have too or he wouldn't have listed it. My seeds from Retiree who posts here, the original source of seeds. See Neil, it's listed. I say that b'c it didn't happen last year I guess due to not enough seed production. Well worth growing.

Marglobe, a standard older commercial variety, have grown it, I think there are better.

Tennessee Britches, yes, have grown it and think it's a great tasting variety. I had to laugh a bit when I looked at the blurb and I did that b'c I couldn't remember if I'd sent Mike that one as well, only to see if was Craig who did, but the blurb says seeds from a Mr Atnip, when indeed his last name is Catnip, which I've never forgotten.

I haven't grown the Pink Giant one so can't comment.

I can only comment on Marglobe from your list, and I must agree with Carolyn, i think there are many that taste better - good producer, pretty, almost blemish free fruit, compact size plant, but the taste was not memorable, average/good, but just not something I would personally put on my list to grow over and over again.

I never saw the post about Ashleigh until today as I was on holiday at the time. I'm pleased to see that Ashleigh tomato is available from Victory now, thanks to your efforts.
I have a photo somewhere of some monsters that my dad grew. I still have a few original seeds from that first tomato, just in case. lol

Neil, I think it's a terrific variety and I keep forgetting to mention it when I'm listing some large red beefsteaks for someone who asks.

I Don't know how recent my seeds are or if I even have any left but if you've got some relatively fresh seeds I'd like to send them to Glenn at Sandhill as well as Linda at TGS and well as Adam at Gleckler's for trial for next year and it's always good to send seeds from the originator of a variety if possible. Let me know by e-mail or PM and we'll go from there and if you don't have enough seeds maybe we can coerce some others that you sent seeds to for a donation.

And I will take a look to see what I have.

Above is where seeds are already available and I see Tania will be offering them for 2011, but I'd really like to place Asheligh at the places above that I mentioned b'c I think they should have greater availability.

I see that Tania said that for her they weren't very productive the one year she grew them but that hasn't been my experience at all. Seasons differ and so for sure results will differ for any variety from time to time.

I have a small quantity of Ashleigh seeds. C. Male was my original source and they are from seeds I saved.

Did somebody say Ashleigh, who said Ashleigh? They don't get much better than Ashleigh. With Ashleigh you put it between two hamburger buns and forget about the beef. The only other Red I know of that will go head to head with Ashleigh is Oleyars German and with Oleyars you get more seed because Ashleigh is stingy in that department. Ami

Ashleigh did not do well for me this year (but we had a very bad year in PNW).
