Carbon

I really enjoyed the taste of the Carbon tomatoes this year both in summer and fall plantings. I'm just wondering if that is what I have? I thought it was a black or dark tomato but all of mine were a nice shade of pink similar to Stump of the World or even lighter in tone. If anyone out there has the Carbon that turns dark I would love to trade a few seed with you and see if you get the same results. The one I have is one of my best tasting tomatoes of 2010 so whether or not it is the true Carbon or not I will definitely be growing it again. I just want to determine if it is my growing conditions or if I have something other than the true seed.

I have grown Carbon for the last three years and the first two they were dark and very flavorful. This past year was not a very good year for me and the Carbons did not turn very dark. They looked more like the Danas Dusky Rose but the flavor was unmistakably the the unique Carbon flavor. Possibly weather may play a role in the color development ,I dont know. I do have seeds for these if you want them. Send me a PM if you want some of these. They were originally from Darrell Merrill(tomatoman) in Tulsa.

I've grown Carbon for a few years in the past and they are very dark in color. I no longer have seeds for them as I quit growing them in favor of better tasting Black/Purple tomatoes. I found Bear Creek, Amazon Chocolate, Dana's Dusky Rose, Blackmaster, Swisher Sweet, JD's special C-Tex, Gary O'Sena, and Indian Stripe to be more to my liking. I should list Cherokee Purple and Pruden's Purple too but I didn't grow either one of them this year. I've also had good results with Black Brandywine but they've been too unstable for me to recommend with varying leaf types and different fruit shapes and tastes that go all over the place. When they're good, they're very good but that's not often enough.
I also grew Vorlon this year (had 6 plants) and although they produced some great sized tomatoes they were the most disappointing of the year. Taste was very bland and unappealing.
I hope you can somehow discover just what you are growing, but like my "Golden Queen" which is more pink than yellow, it's almost impossible. I'll continue to grow "GQ" as it tastes so great even if its been the last tomato to ripen for two years now.
