Best striped?

I have seeds for these varieties, and only enough room for one of them.

So which one would you suggest for flavor, texture, pattern/color, size, and earliness.

Green zebra
Marvel stripe
Green copia
Berkely tie dye heart

Have you grown striped ones before? If you haven't

I would recommend none of the ones you had listed (sorry) - Georgia Streak or big Rainbow (nice beefsteaks, beautiful and delicious) - another nice small, early and prolific striped one would be csikos botermo.

If you have grown the above mentioned and are solely looking to grow what you have listed I'd go with green zebra - for me, they throw alot of fruit and are taste really awesome.

Well, last year I did grow green zebra and it actually grows ok in my garden, which is great for the wet, disgusting weather here.

and sorry, but these are all the striped seeds I'm gonna have this year- If I went on another seed trip, I wouldn't be able to not buy everything!!

Taryn - I've grown all four, though not in the same year. My favorite by far was BTD heart. It is very meaty and flavorful - a "must grow" if you like dark fruited types.

My wife and many of my friends thought Green Zebra was my best tomato last year. My favorite was by far ananas noire (black pineapple).

I'd recommend Berkeley Tie Dye Heart out of the four you listed.

It grows well in PNW, very good tasting, and looks great too!

Green Zebra is too mild for my taste.

I have some Green Zebra seed and not much room for all the tomatoes I want to grow. I am trying to decide whether or not to plant it this year. Some say it is zippy and tart and others say it is sweet. I am wondering if it is hard to know when it is ripe or is there another explaination for the comments about taste.

I find green zebra very zippy for my taste but I have friends who love that acid taste. I really do like the berkley tie die, flavorful and pretty to look at.

Everyone has different tastes with tomatoes, but there are general tasting notes that can tell you an "average" - as Tania said, it's too mild for her, but others think it's zippy. You won't really know without trying it yourself.

However, as to green tomatoes - it's not zippy because folkpicked it unripe - you generally know when a green tomato is ripe is when it "gives" and becomes softer. Some greens get yellow shoulders, some pink etc. It usually go by the firmness. My best green, taste for me, is Grub's mystery green - but green zebra is something I always grow too.

I've grew both Marvel Stripe and Green Zebra last year, and loved both. If I had to choose one, I'd go with Green Zebra. I loved the taste and it produced really well here in the heat. It has that nice zingy green-when-ripe taste.

Marvel Stripe gave huge tomatoes but less of them. The taste was very good for a yellow-red bicolor- not mild like many yellow are. This is more of a "splotched" than striped tomato, despite the name.

I know BTD heart is nice but I can't speak from experience, having never grown it.
