Ted
Things have changed. The water is not like it used to be, and I don't know of any large vegetable operations anymore. It's all corn, wheat and cattle, at least until the water runs out.

I've read that the water has ran out at Happy, TX, and farming and the cattle industry have practically ended there. That's 30 miles due east of here.

The sugar beet plant closed long ago.

But you can still grow a good tomato here.

I think the restaurant your thinking of was "Rhinegolds" in Umbarger. The owner retired long ago, and sold out.

John

Walgreens also carries American Seeds - although I think they are usually 99 cents a pack. I've always bought them after the season is over, and they are 75% off.

In a similiar vein, Menards currently has Valley Greene(The Page Seed Company) flower and vegetable packs for .19 each. I noticed Numex Big Jim Chili, Stowes Evergreen Corn, Rutgers Tomato, and some misc. others in the vegetable category. The corn pack felt like it had 10-12 kernels in it.

I picked up some of the 20cent seeds awhile back and went in today (at Wal Marts) and they got some more in mostly squash - I picked up some Table Queen Squash (which I do not know anything about) and Grey Zucchini Squash (again I do not know anything about but would like to know how it compares to reg Zucchini) - anyways Wal Mart might be stocking in some squash looks like mostly winter in the 20 cent paks (least wise in around here they are) just a heads up.
