Maybe if people lose interest in some varieties, interest can be stimulated by adding the "improved" to the name. Some varieties should be forgotten because something better came along. It's genetic identity should be maintained in a seed bank for posterity and possible breeding opportunities, but it has no redeeming qualities on it's own.
