Its time for the extra seedlings to go.

About this time every year I start scrambling looking for people in town to give tomato seedlings to - family, friends, acquaintances, strangers I run into in the garden section of the local box stores etc. This year I have given away about 250 heirloom/op ones. Most of them went to the local Master Gardener's club. Hope to get some input back from them.

Thanks to some kind of herbicide drift I lost a huge number of my replacement seedlings so I have only given away about 150 this year. I still have about 100 which I am in the process of potting into larger containers because the fusarium is taking out a lot of plants right now and I may need them soon. I have started about 60 varieties from seed a couple of weeks ago for mid summer and fall planting; but it will be a while before they are big enough to plant.

I am feeling the same way. The neighbors have promised to come and get their "babies" this weekend, but...

Already went to 2 food pantries and the closest senior citizen center but still have more to find homes for. I'll have to look into the Master Gardener's club- they might actually get excited about the unusual heirloom collection.

Actually I'm grateful that all the ones I've planted are doing so well that I probably won't need any of the extras...did I say that out loud?!

Barring more hail, it is time to divest here also. With only 25-30 left and those promised to a BIL I am about done. Our local Master Gardeners have started to pre-order their tomatoes. At least this year none will go into the compost; that breaks my heart for some reason.

I gave away about 50 and it was fun. The only thing that rubbed me a little bit the wrong way was that I left several dozen at my local community garden. They all got taken VERY quickly and I was delighted. The thing that gets me though is that only about half a dozen seem to have made it back to the various garden plots. The other are just "gone." Maybe others plant tomatoes at home so they just did that with them? Ho, hum. I guess when one gives something away, they have to understand that others will do what the please.

I gave away 7 tomato plants to a good friend that has a "brown thumb" I even mixed up some soil and gave it to him to hopefully making the chance of success a little better for him

I gave him 3 Sungolds, 2 Goose Creek and 2 Brandywine Cowlicks to grow. Hopefully he won't drown the plants to death like last season

Yep, If anyone in central Ohio needs some seedlings, just shoot me a PM for my address. I only ask that if you can you return the empty pots so I can use them again next year. Have at least a hundred varieties left, over 300 plants.... that empty ground might have to be tilled under if I can't give them away.

I intended to sell mine, but my schedule didn't work out. So thankfully, most have found a home - given to various friends, neighbors, etc. One more big load being delivered to a friend tomorrow, then I'll only have a few stragglers. Now, about the TONS of basil I accidentally ended up with... Anyone need some basil...

I managed to give away three.

I didn't start a ton, so my only extras were a japanese black triefle, an amish paste and an orange variety I can't remember.
