Heart Broken HOA says no to my front yard garden

I am lucky my wife is the president of our townhouses HOA and I live in the last unit on a private driveway. Also our property manager is a tomato guy so I think should be clear if anyone complained but there is always that possibility but hopefully will be in a house in a few more years.

Very disturbing! And I agree, I could NEVER own a home in a place with a HOA. Talk about giving up your rights.

That's a bummer, but it's not surprising considering you live in Fairfax. Surprisingly, our HOA just approved my application to add an 8' x 30' elevated garden deck on the side of my house with a 5 x 12' greenhouse on top of it. This despite the fact that the architectural guidelines say that vegetable gardens must be behind the house, as must all ground-level decks. Seems to be a loophole for elevated decks, and they didn't ask me what I would be growing in the greenhouse.

Now, if I can just convince the planning commission of Fairfax Country to eliminate the need for a certified engineering study to prove that the deck can hold the weight of the greenhouse. Total weight is 350 lbs -- I know some people that weigh more that. Also, they don't require such a study to put a hot tub on a deck, and that weighs about 4,800 lbs! Oh well -- common sense isn't common.

This is why I live out in the country, I don't really care what my neighbors do or what their property looks like.

We had an HOA here in Texas ban pickup trucks from parking in driveways unless they were manufactured by Cadillac or a few other select manufacturers. Even in normally conservative Texas where the rights of property owners are protected, the idiots are taking over.

I will never live in a city or developed area with silly rules again. The bad part of living in the country is many common sense rules don't apply. We have a guy about 1/2 mile from us who picks up every stray dog he sees. He currently has about forty dogs which roam freely and attack joggers on the road. The local sheriff says he has no law or rules he can enforce. The humane society sent a lady out to see what can be done about all the flea bitten, starving mongrels on the guys property. She was bitten by one of the dogs. They chase horses and cows. The guy tried to get Walmart to donate free dog food for his "animal shelter". A local veterinarian tried to work out a deal with the guy to provide health care services for the dogs at his cost. The guy would only accept his services and supplies like rabies shots and heart worm medication if they were provided free of charge.

I guess we need a few rules so we can live together on the same planet.

Finally got all the maters moved from the front yard and placed in the back yard. Very tricky moving each one without braking the plant.
