My "Brandywine From Croatia" Grow-out (pics)

I wanted to start a new Thread relevant only to my actual grow-out of this year's 7 "Brandywine from Croatia" plants purchased April 3 at the Santa Clara Master Gardener's Event.



While I purchased 7 plants labeled "Brandywine from Croatia", upon closer examination when I got them out of the "zoo" atmosphere of the Sale, I found 6 to be RL, while one was PL:





Today, this Variety is the most massive and robust of any variety that I am growing:



As these are in the back row in a very confined aisle space, I am not able to get a "front-on" photo to post. However, they are now over 78 inches tall as of today.

Again, somewhat hard to discern from a different angle, but the PL version plant is in the foreground, and the two RL plants are immediately behind it (the ones over the top of the cage):



I am still proceeding on the assumption that someone at potting time for the Sale stuck the wrong label in the PL plant. I am seeing about 5 times the fruitset on the PL plant as compared with the RL plant. Here is the PL:

So anyway, it will be fun to watch this saga unfold over the next few months. If I can't identify the fruit from the PL plant as Brandywine Sudduth, or similar strain, I think I am going to just call it "Brandie-wine from Croatia" in honor of Brandie Benton, who was Playmate of the Month in the June 1989 issue (according to Al Bundy.....)

Ray, there's absolutely no way that you can ID it to any strain of Brandywine, or indeed to any large pink fruited PL variety, for the several reasons that have been discussed before.

But I'm sure glad that you noted who Brandie Benton is b'c, well, I just haven't ever kept up on who the Playmate of the Month has been but noted this past week that Heffner was stood up by his latest blonde, the one he was supposed to marry, only b'c that bit appeared in the news.

And I'm glad you started this thread and will look forward to more pictures as the plants mature, set fruit, and ripen them.

Very nice looking tomatoes and plants. I will be watching for a picture of a ripe tomato and your review of the taste.

Remember, Al Bundy NEVER got the names right - - only their measurements, birthmarks, etc. 100% accurate.

Or,,, do I change the new Variety name to "Barbi-wine"?

I'm curious how the production of the regular leaf plants compare to the production of a typical Brandywine (Suddeth, etc.)?

My brother lives in Santa Clara and also has been growing the socalled Croatian Brandywine. He loves it, and indeed i have seen some whopper pink fruit from his plants. What he is growing is RL, and seems not related to the classic Brandywine Sudduth.
