Had my first 'winner' of the season finally.

Everything and I mean everything up this point has been mealy and mushy. You name it and its been bad, Danko, Reif Red Heart and Tsar Kolokol to name a few. I think its due in large part to the cool spring we have had here. Well I finally had one tonight that had a nice meat to juice ratio that was tender that just made me say "oh ya, thats what I'm talkin about!". It was a 12 oz Japanese Black Triefle x Branywine Sudduth f1, and even the first few fruit off this one were bad aswell. Just hoping things get better from here because nobody likes mushy mealy tomatoes.

Good stuff, Damon!!

The JBT x BWS plant you gave me is doing extremely well. Lots of green fruits - - but none ripe as of the moment. Hopefully, with the bees now back in action as well as some warmth (finally) we both should be in for a bumper harvest this Season.

Sounds wonderful. I know what you mean about the early ones. Fortunately, my hoophouse has bee spitting out splendid big fruited varieties for a couple weeks now. The outdoor plants are still several weeks away from producing. Such a cool year so far.

Wow, those cool temps must make a real difference in the early tomatoes. Since we had some 100 degree weather in May this year and that is usually when the first ripe ones appear, none of my early ones were spitters. I have noticed this before though. Last year most of my early ones had little flavor until Red Siberian. I also found that when growing fall tomatoes it was by far the tastiest when the weather turned really cold. It is early for a big beefsteak and might be a great one for you to try next season.

Ray- Nice little rain storm were getting huh? Lol, looks like its going to warm up after this rain storm.

b54red- Wish I had a little of your weather earlier this year. For the most part is was cool and overcast. Not normal for us here, usually we get a mix of both warm and cool during the spring.
