Stupid tomato plant
When I got this plant(s) they were already growing a few cherry tomatoes (Husky cherry hybrid).
They grew very quickly and we've already harvested a few really good red ones. But the rain here just wont stop. Ive read that too much water can keep tomatoes from ripening and Im wondering if thats whats going on now because some of these are as big as TWO good sized husky cherry's but they are refusing to ripen now. I picked a ton of them and tossed them in with a banana to see what happens. And Ive pulled the planter out of the way of rain and stopped watering for now. Any other ideas? |

Let me add that in addition to WAY too much rain here, I have been watering too.
Im positive its being over watered...and thinking about it thats about the time they stopped turning red. |

It hasnt been raining so much and Ive cut back watering and fertilizing.
I also pruned a number of excessive leaves and the heat hasnt been quite so bad. There seems to be one tomato that is actually changing to a somewhat of an orange tint, so hopefully something has made a difference. Bad thing is that I dont know if something above did make a change...or if it was coincedence....or if some combination of things may be working. Never in all the years Ive planted tomatoes have I ever seen a plant refuse to ripen tomatoes. |
